Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for Australian visas myself, without an agent?
Yes. All applications go through your free ImmiAccount on the official government site. Many people self-lodge visitor, student and even skilled visas. Complex cases (refusals, health/character issues, borderline points) are where a MARA-registered agent earns their fee.
How long do visas take to process?
It varies by subclass and time of year — from minutes (ETA) to months (skilled and partner visas). Check live estimates on the Home Affairs visa processing times tool.
What is the points test?
Skilled visas 189, 190 and 491 are points-tested: you score points for age (25–32 scores highest), English level, skilled work experience, qualifications, Australian study, partner skills and nomination. The pass mark is 65, but invitations typically go to much higher scores in popular occupations.
Is there an age limit for skilled migration?
Most skilled visas require you to be under 45 at invitation/application. Exceptions exist for some employer-sponsored transitions and high-income earners — check the specific subclass on the official site.
Where do I verify everything on this page?
Start at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au — the Department of Home Affairs' official immigration portal. Its Visa Finder and skilled occupation lists are the authoritative references.
